About me

I have a diploma in applied art with a specialization in the plastic art of modeling. I had several years experience painting and for a while also decorated pottery. I qualified as an art teacher in 1991 at the I.S.A. ROMA 2.

I love children and couldn’t find a better subject for my sculptures. I adore creating them and start with a small piece of resin that takes hours of patience and concentration to become a real baby with details like the folds and its position which must be typical of a newborn babe. I usually take from 10 to 11 hours to make a complete doll, depending how complicated it is. I only use one type of polymer clay which I have to buy abroad because I can’t find it in Italy.

I tried with Cernit, another sort of resin, but at the temperature of my hands it does not heat up enough, staying too stiff to be modeled with success for my creations. I use very few tools, the same that are used for modeling wax, the rest of the work appears through the pressure of my fingertips and my fanciful imagination. If the baby’s eyes are open they are made of handmade glass that can withstand the high temperature of the oven in the process I use to harden the polymer clay. The next stage is painting the dolls and giving them a pinkish hue wherever necessary; I do this with acrylic paint while many other artists prefer oil paint.

The babies are about 8 cms. - 3 inches, long and anyway always fit into the palm of a hand. The finished doll is obviously a collector’s item and not a toy, they are quite delicate and could break if they fall or are hit and lose small chips, therefore small children should not be left alone with them. I take the greatest care when I do the packaging and mailing of the dolls and include an authenticity certificate signed by myself. Considering the time it takes to finish each creation, which are embellished with clothes that I crochet in top quality materials, it is not a very large scale production and this all determines the prices. I do not work on commission from photos or portraits as I just don’t have the time.

At the moment most of my newborns are part of collections in America, Great Britain and Germany: the countries I have concentrated on for my sales through E-Bay. I hope to reach all round the world to be able to satisfy all the collectors who love this form of art. I wish to thank all the people who have adopted one or more of my babies and hope they were truely satisfied, I also thank everyone who has written encouraging me, and who is interested in my particular stile and still writes and follows my story and progress appreciating my technique which is special, as it is for every artist.
